The nanny had what appeared to be self-inflicted stab wounds, police say
She's in critical condition

(CNN) -- A Manhattan mother came home Thursday to find two of her young children stabbed to death in a bathroom, as their nanny lay bleeding to death nearby, police said.
The children's nanny was on the bathroom floor bleeding from what appeared to be self-inflicted stab wounds to her neck, New York City police spokesman Paul Browne said. A kitchen knife was found next to the nanny.
A neighbor called 9-1-1 after hearing the mother's screams. The children were taken to St. Luke's Roosevelt and pronounced dead. They were 1 and 6 years old
The nanny is at Cornell Medical Center in critical condition.
